Norma Cherry
It’s me again…….. I know I’ve said this before, but I sure wish all
of you out there that lived in Tyner would tell some of your stories….. On the
thread that I wrote about RogerLaMunion being called Corky….a new story was told
“ one punch LaMunion” I had never heard that one before…. Our time in that small
little town really just a village was beyond special. It’s something that we
will never be able to capture again and all of you have memories..I just know
you do. I would love to hear them please don’t be shy. As I left Swan Lake and
drove towards Tyner I felt that tug at my heart as I always do whenever I
return………Al said “why are u so fond of this place”…(he who grow up in Joliet
Illinois) Because it’s home ……… i simply replied….much like those comforters
that the “ so and so” club used to make that my Mom belonged too……you can wrap
up in the warmth of those beautiful pieces of cloth so loving sewed ……and cocoon
yourself away from everything….every single scrap of material a memory in
itself…..just like the little town of Tyner.
Linda Drews Benjamin
I love your writing and the memories you inspire. Don't stop.

Corky………. Everyone introduced themselves at the Tyner reunion Saturday
night……when it was Roger La Munion’s turn…..he said his name ….”but Norma
always called me Corky!! “He added…. Oh, there’s a story behind that …..it took
a while for Roger, alias Corky, and I to figure out where I came up with that
name… Back in the late 1950s early 60 there was a show on TV called Circus
Boy…the young boy was named Corky ….and he had a pet elephant which was called
Bimbo…..the story line didn’t apply to Rodger….his parents weren’t killed in a
trapeze act…. And he wasn’t adopted by a clown or lived in the circus…. But yet
there was just something…. I think it was his infectious smile and his messy,
blonde hair, and just being impish ….that Rodger became my Corky! Being an only
child, I loved hanging out at their house. There was always so much going on…..
and it seemed like wherever I was this cute little blonde boy with messy blonde
hair would pop up….. whether Norm LaMunion and I were practicing music for the
band ….or playing hide and seek outside . or just sitting around cracking up
laughing there was that little tyke… circus boy …Corky …was played by Micky
Dolenz …. Later to become famous with the “Hey Hey we’re the Monkees band”…..
Roger grew up and I moved away ….But he will always be my Corky.

Who is “One Punch” LaMunion?
Norma Cherry
Gene Reese what story is that one?
Gene Reese
Norma Cherry No Idea ???
Roger LaMunion
Gene Reese It was a nickname Fred Church gave to me. My B-team coach's name was
Stewart. I passed a ball around my back at practice to Dan Smith. It was a
perfect pass, but fancy stuff like that was not allowed back then. Coach
Stewart came undone and charged me yelling, and when he got to me, I thought he
was going to hit me, and my instincs just kicked in and I decked him and
floored him with one punch. He kicked me off the team for a week. Work spread
throughout the school, and Fred later called me One Punch LaMunion. Ironically,
years later I took in a cat, and while my son Ryan did not know this story, he
named the cat Stewart. I have never hit the cat.
Roger LaMunion
word spread not work. Need to proofread.
Norma Cherry
Roger LaMunion I didn’t know this story….but I love it!
Linda Drews Benjamin
Roger LaMunion I love this..I didn't know this story.
Gene Reese
Roger LaMunion Great Story!! I might have kicked you off forever 🤣😂

Norma Cherry ~ Thank you for making the connection of Roger LaMunion's nickname
of Corky, and especially the fact that Micky Dolenz played the part. I wonder
if Roger can sing too?!?
Norma Cherry
Larry Mueller maybe so…he came from a musical family
Roger LaMunion
Norma Cherry indeed, music was a big thing in our home.
Roger LaMunion
Larry Mueller Yes, only in the presence of my cats these days. Norma is
right>>>we did have a very musical family. Our Mother played piano and gave
lessons and sang all the time. We all played instruments. I played Trombone and
Guitar.
Jeannie Dunfee
What a nice story. I lived and went to school at Tyner and lived almost across
the street from the lamumion family. I loved growing up in Tyner.

Roger LaMunion and I love how the Reunion brought back our story and the story
of you and the one Punch La Munion….. can you imagine all the stories that all
those people have, and we’ve never heard before I still wish people would share
their memories, because they are indeed, very special
Joella Krallman
I remember Norm as well as his sister who was a year ahead of me.
Her name think was Janet. She liked to ride horses and said that one had
bite her.
Roger LaMunion
Thank you so much Norma for our story of how I became Corky, and always will be
Corky to you. I always felt special to you whenever you called me Corky, and I
always will. I was every bit how you described me. I too loved going to your
home. Your Mother always was kind and busy in the kitchen. I recall some years
back yet a distant time from leaving Tyner, I was up at Sears in South Bend,
and I heard a voice say Corky. What a treat that was. We all loved you coming
to our house in Tyner. You were great fun. I kinda did resemble Circus Boy
(Mickey Dolenz) a bit with my blond hair back then. Again, thank you Norma for
sharing our cherished times and our special connection.
