TYNER, Nov.18 - Hamlet's up and coming basketeers bested the Tyner Redmen, 49 to 48 in an overtime tussle here last evening. Tyner scored only four points in the second quarter but managed to pick up enough steam in a nip and tuck fourth quarter to knot the count at 43 all at the final gun.
Marion Shearin tossed in the winning bucket with the score toed at 47 and very little time left in the overtime period. Tyner added a free throw but trailed by one point as the game ended.
Both coaches devised ways to stop opposing centers but two guards took over the scoring duties for both teams. Earl Smith tossed in 23 points for Tyner and Ronnie Shei scorched the nets for 25 markers for the visitors.
Accuracy at the free throw stripe proved valuable for Hamlet with a 19 for 27 shooting average. Tyner hit 16 for 26. The Redmen had one more bucket from the field, than the Tigers.
In the preliminary, the Hamlet "B" team made the evening complete walking away with a 31- decision over the Tyner understudies.

Tyner Loses 46 to 45


Walkerton, Nov. 2 -(Special) The host Walkerton team last night fought a last minute rally by Tyner and squeezed by with a 46 to 45 win.
Tyner took an early lead and held it most of the time until Walkerton took the initiative four minutes in the second half. With three minutes to go until the final horn, the hosts led by five points.
A layin by Louis Ecker and a side shot by Jim Waller of Tyner brought the margin down to one point but, the gap couldn't be closed.
Waller was high point man with 14 points made by four field goals and six free throws.

TYNER, Nov.4 - Tyner's Dick Balke split the hoop on a pivot shot in the last seconds of play last evening as the Tyner Redmen tripped the visiting bulldogs 49-47. It was the second close battle this week for the Redmen as they dropped a two-point decision to Walkerton Wednesday evening.
Tyner pulled away from 3 all tie in the first quarter and managed to keep varied, small leads until the last two minutes of play. With the score knotted at 45 all, Louis Ecker connected on a layin for Tyner but Al Woleck swished one from the side with 90 seconds to go. Tyner controlled the ball until the last five seconds when Balke scored the winning bucket. Balke led the Tyner attack with 26 points. Al Wojeck hit 18 points for West.
Accuracy from the free throw line paid off for the Redmen as they hit 13 for 18. West hit nine for 18. West had one more field goal than Tyner.
In the preliminary, the Tyner youngsters had little difficulty in beating the West "B" team, 44 - 22 after piling up a 27 - 8 lead at halftime.
