Tyner, Dec.6 -A fighting Tyner five was edged last night 58 to 56 by a deadeye Richland Center team.
Richland Center, which won its last game out 101 to 22 shot only 35 times from the floor and made 21 of these attempts for a fabulous 60 percentage. Tyner shot more often, 77 times and hit 20 times for a 2.26 average.
The Wildcats ended the first period in front 16 to 12, but not before the Redmen gave an indication of their fight by taking the lead midway in that quarter. The second quarter favored the visitors 34 to 20, but Tyner brought the Center's margin down to six points by the end of the third quarter.
Four charity tosses in the beginning of the last period, plus baskets by Earl Smith and Charles Jones tied the game up 48 all. Center went ahead by one and two buckets but the Redmen managed to close the gap with one minute left to play. Doc Waller tied it up 56 to 56.
Forward O'Dell of Richland scored the winning basket and was fouled in the process. The visitors chose to take the ball out of bounds and stalled for the remainder of the game.
Dick Balke was high scorer for the losers with 14 points, while O'Dell connected for eight field goals and four free throws for the victors.
R.C.'s B team scored a 42 to 26 victory.
