FIRST GRADE

We are all enjoying these beautiful spring days; now, we can play outside. We are happy to see spring flowers and others signs of spring.
SECOND GRADE

Many of our group have made individual story and picture books as a correlation of language, spelling, and writing. Winners will be announced soon.

We are enjoying our new science books. we are learning many things about birds and animals.

We are busy helping Mrs. Strong, get ready for the Art Exhibit. We hope our parents will come to see our art work on the night.
THIRD GRADE

Some of the children gave an impromptu play for the room, "What An Old Man Does Is Always Right," taken from one of their readers. It was given very well. It will be given in the second and first grade rooms later.

The class that is studying the Colonial period is busy weaving hot pads. They are weaving on a real loom.

Last week the children all had perfect scores in their years work in multiplication of the 2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's. This week our goal is perfect scores in division.
FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE NEWS

On May 1st, the pupils of the fifth and sixth grades went on a tour of some of the interesting sights of South Bend. Much of the forenoon was spent at the Studebaker plant. After a delightful lunch at Smith's cafeteria, they had a ten minute shopping period at the

5 and 10. At the Federal Courtroom in the Federal Building, the guide explained some of the interesting cases held in that room.

Mrs. Stanfield, curator at the Northern Indiana Historical Society Museum, made their visit there interesting and worthwhile. Then their bus-driver, Mr. Burch, took them out to LaSalle's portage place, Council Oak, passed St. Mary's, Notre Dame, and the Northern Indiana Hospital for Children.

The students felt it was a very worth while excursion and that they have a better idea of what industry and history means to us.

Mrs. Newberg and Mrs. Norris, the room-mothers, went on the trip.

We have enjoyed studying 26 films this semester. They have been on a great variety of subjects that correlate with our various school subjects. "Alaska's Silver Millions" seemed to be the most popular. It portrayed our northern possession as Father Elbert Hubbard, missionary, has seen it. We want to thank George Killian, and Charles Jansen for fine projecting they did for us.

Softball is the sport now. We hope to win a game from Teegarden before school is out.

The annual wiener roast picnic and treasure hunt is coming up very soon. Committees have been selected for the occasion.

The seventh grade are having sort of a contest in spelling.
