BAND  PATRONS'  BANQUET

The annual Band Patrons' Banquet, honoring the 1962-63 band members was held on Monday, April 6. The ham was furnished by the Band Patrons and the remainder of the meal was carried in.

Mr. Louiseau, music director was in charge of the program. Special music for the evening was a clarinet solo and a clarinet duet. A Walt Disney film, "Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom" was shown. There were approximately 90 present at the banquet.

The Polk Township Band Patrons officers for the coming year are:  President,   Mrs. Wayne Matz; Vice-President,  Mrs. Ernest Brovold; Secretary,   John Martin;  Treasurer,  Mrs. C.E. Shank.

F.F.A. NEWS

The District I, F.F.A. Judging Contest was hels Saturday, May 4, at Hamlet. The Poultry Judging team, which is inexperienced in tough competition, placed an impressive third in the contest.

The fifteen boys with the highest number of points will be going on a trip to Cincinnati, May 10-14. Points are received by total amount of sales through the year, attendance at meetings, judging teams, offices held, committees, and other contests.

The boys who ar eligible to go on the trip are:  Jerry Schmeltz,  Dennis Burch,  Hal Patterson,  Wayne Pontius,  Nilas Miller,  Richard Berglund,  Bob Jacobson,  Darold Hathaway,  Terry Ernsberger,  Norm Ross,   Dewey Cowen,  Steve Matz,  Wayne Smith,  Mickey Replogle,  and  Bill Norris.

Plans are being made to organize an F.F.A. softbell team.

JUNIOR - SENIOR  PROM

The putting up of decorations, setting of tables, and preparing the meal was the scene found at THS on Saturday, May 4. The big event - The Junior-Senior Prom.

A few hoyrs later, an air of festivity was seen as the guests began arriving with their dates. The delicious banquet, held in the cafeteria, was prepared by the Junior mothers.

The prom was held in the school gym, beautifully decorsted in lavender and white. In keeping with the theme, "An April in Paris," the gym was decorated as a sidewalk cafe.

Rosetta Kling was crowned Prom Queen and Mike Matz as Prom King at an impressive ceremony. Rosetta was presented a dozen red roses. Music was provided by the Meredith Band from Rochester.

The after-prom party, planned by the mothers of the Juniors began at 12 o'clock. Students enjoyed a movie, "High Conquest" and dancing.

VALEDICTORIAN  AND  SALUTATORIAN

Richard Berglund, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Berglund, achieved the scholastic honor of being Valedictorian of his class. JHelen Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Long, is this year's Salutatorian.



Honor is like an island, rugged and without a beach; once we have left it, we can never return.
